Hema-Glow™ for Detecting Blood Stains
Hema-Glow™ is a spray reagent used for the detection of blood at crime scenes. No Forensic Light Source or UV Lamp is needed to see the glow. Spray the solution on the suspected area, then observe and photograph the glowing stains of footwear tracks or smears or swipes or other marks which were made with blood residue.
There are two bottles of pre-mixed solution in the kit. When ready to use, pour the activator liquid from the small bottle into the larger spray bottle and begin spraying. The mixed solution will be effective for at least two months and even longer when stored at room temperature, out of direct sunlight. The kit comes with two bottles of solution, a chemical sprayer and two pairs of gloves. After mixing, the two solutions of liquid total 16 ounces.
Hema-Glow™ is an indicator test and fixes the blood, which may make it useless for ABO and/or DNA testing. It is recommended to collect samples for analysis prior to spraying with Hema-Glow™. A specific caution in using this product is that it is flammable, so you should not smoke or work around an open flame with this product. Also, because it is classified as flammable, we cannot ship this product by air. If you anticipate that you will need Hema-Glow™ for an investigation of the scene of a violent crime, please order ahead. While we can generally ship the product the same day you order it, we have to ship it via ground service and it may take several days to reach you.
For more information on Hema-Glow™ and a comparison to luminol, please read the study done by Lt. Robin Brattan of the Michigan State Police on our web site (www.redwop.com) under Technical Notes.
